About This Trek
Sandakphu is the highest peak in West Bengal (3,636m) and sits on the India-Nepal border along the Singalila Ridge — the only place in the world from which you can see four of the world's five highest peaks simultaneously: Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu. This single fact makes it one of the most remarkable viewpoints in the entire Himalayan range.
The trek follows the Singalila Ridge from Manebhanjan, traversing the India-Nepal border through rhododendron forests, remote border villages, and high ridge camps. In March–April, the rhododendrons bloom in vivid reds and pinks along the entire route. In October–December, the skies clear and the mountain panoramas are at their most dramatic.
Karan has led this route — and it's a trek that rewards equally well in both seasons. The ridge walking, the Sherpa tea houses, and the morning light on Kanchenjunga from Sandakphu make this one of the most distinctive trekking experiences in India.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Drive from NJP or Bagdogra airport through Darjeeling to Manebhanjan — the trailhead. Begin the trek through rhododendron and oak forest, gaining altitude steadily to Tonglu. First views of Kanchenjunga appear on clear evenings. Walk: ~4 hrs.
Walk along the Singalila Ridge — the India-Nepal border. The trail alternates between the two countries throughout the day. Rhododendron forest dense on both sides; views of the Kangchenjunga massif emerging. Kalipokhri is a small settlement with a sacred lake. Walk: ~5 hrs.
Final ascent to Sandakphu — the highest point on the trek. Arrive in time for the afternoon and, on a clear day, a first full panorama of Everest (8,849m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Lhotse (8,516m), and Makalu (8,485m). Walk: ~5 hrs.
Sunrise at Sandakphu first — the best light on the four summits. Then trek further along the ridge to Phalut, another high point with its own magnificent views. A long ridge walk with continuous mountain panoramas. Walk: ~6 hrs.
Long descent from the ridge into forest and then the beautiful Gorkhey village — one of the most charming stops on the Singalila route. A different world from the high ridge: birds, forest, warm teahouses. Walk: ~6 hrs.
Final trek out to Sepi, then drive back to NJP or Bagdogra. Trek ends. Walk: ~3 hrs + drive.
